Description
A miraculous encounter filled with light. For the beginning of a pure and beautiful life.
This ethereal Hagoita captures the miraculous beginning of “The Tale of the Bamboo Cutter,” Japan’s oldest folktale. It depicts the moment a humble bamboo cutter discovers a tiny, radiant princess—Princess Kaguya—inside a glowing stalk of bamboo. This scene signifies the arrival of unexpected joy and celestial blessing. The masterpiece is created using the exquisite “Oshie” padded relief method, with soft silk fabrics meticulously layered to create a stunning three-dimensional narrative on a high-grade paulownia wood base. Gifted during the New Year, this Hagoita represents purity and the hope that the child’s life will be filled with light and miraculous happiness. It serves as a protective guardian for a girl’s first New Year, honoring the elegance of ancient Japanese folklore while wishing for the child to be as cherished as the legendary princess.
