An elegant display of artisanal skill, this ornamental paddle honors the legendary salt-scooper story through the lens of traditional craftsmanship. The three-dimensional figure is created using the padded fabric technique (Oshie), with fine silk textures layered over soft cotton for a padded effect. The paulownia wood base is chosen for its superior quality and lightweight nature, making it ideal for the intricate padded art. Brilliant shades of scarlet and gold leaf patterns decorate the kimono, while the character’s serene face is hand-painted with delicate precision. Serving as a guardian for the New Year, this Hagoita is a wish for good health and protection from harm. The combination of cultural narrative and master-level technical execution makes it a cherished heirloom.
