Description
Small courage leads to a great leap. A journey holding infinite possibilities.
This Hagoita captures the inspiring start of Issun-boshi, the “Little One-Inch Boy,” as he leaves his elderly parents to seek his fortune in the capital. Navigating a vast river in a soup bowl boat with a single chopstick as an oar, he symbolizes the immense bravery required to take the first step toward a grand destiny, regardless of one’s size. The artwork utilizes the traditional “Oshie” technique, with fine silk meticulously layered over soft cotton to create a vibrant 3D relief on a premium paulownia wood base. Every detail, from the ripples in the water to Issun-boshi’s determined expression, is handcrafted with precision. Historically gifted for a girl’s first New Year, it serves as a protective charm and a heartfelt wish for the child to possess the courage to dream big and overcome all obstacles, ensuring a life of great adventure and success.
