Description
The power of a hero crushing evil. Protecting family peace with an indomitable spirit.
This striking piece depicts the victorious battle of Momotaro and his friends against the ogres on the island of Onigashima. The dramatic action is rendered in 3D through the padded “Oshie” technique on a paulownia wood base, symbolizing justice and the protection of the innocent. The artisans have captured the intensity of the struggle and the ultimate triumph of good over evil with vivid silk and cotton padding. In Japanese tradition, this scene is a powerful talisman used to drive away illness and bad luck. By gifting this Hagoita for the first New Year, the family expresses their hope for the child to grow up as a protector and a bringer of peace, endowed with the physical and mental strength to overcome any difficulty and bring justice to their world.
